There is just something about winter that puts me in a sewing mood. I broke out my sewing machine this week and made a few new pillows and pin cushions.
I really love this great French-y image from The Graphics Fairy. I printed the image onto my fabric and then just sewed and stuffed. I printed it out in a 5x7 size so I was able to get two images onto the fabric. Kind of like two for the price of one! I'm wondering, though, if some of you sewing pros can tell me what I'm doing wrong on some of my pillows. They doesn't always seem to come out even. Sometimes they have what I can only describe as "wings"?!
I used the same fabric plus another I bought from Fabric.com a few months ago for these pin cushions. I just love the way they look in the vintage jello molds. I added some French script to give them a French-y touch. For these, I used a plate to cut my circles and then just stitched the fabric leaving two ends long. When I was done stitching all around, I pulled the ends together, tied, added my stuffing and then hot glued them to my molds.
I have added a few other new petite pillows to my Etsy shop too.

PS ... guess who I'm gonna meet in March. The Yanks. I can NOT wait. Going with a friend to a spring training game who works for the paper so I'm gonna get to go in the dugout. 1 thing checked off my bucket list : )
Hi Jeanine,
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet graphics pillow and the little pin cushions. Love the way you used the jello molds.
I sometimes end up with those wings on my pillows too. I guess we could round off the edges and then put the filler inside. I wouldn't worry about it though because they look great.

The pillows are just gorgeous, great job
ReplyDeleteThese came out nice! How is your printer holding up or are you using one just for fabric now? I think I have an old one here that I'm thinking about asking M to hook up for me to try this. I am so afraid to feed it through our everyday printer {especially since he needs to use it for work}.
ReplyDeleteDon't use your everyday printer! Too risky! I use an old one (inkjet) and once in a while it will get jammed but so far the fabric has not broken it. Of course now that I just said that...

such a soft pretty color.

Oh my goodness I just love that pillow. Makes me wish I had a cottage with a front porch swing to display it on. Your pin cushions are lovely : )
ReplyDeleteWow, I really like these pillows. I just might have to go over to Graphics Fairy and grab some of that frenchy stuff too.

Hi Jeanine, Thanks for your visit to my blog today. I'm happy to hear you liked my little linen bunnies. I may try and add some to my shop if my bridal orders ease up a bit to allow me some extra creating time. I'm happy to have discovered your blog. I adore the fabric on these pin cushions and pillow. I had to laugh when I read the part about the "wings" on the pillows. This has always bothered me too! I did find a link on the web that discusses solutions to this problem. I hope to have a go at it when I sew some pillow covers later this week. Here is the link: http://sewing.about.com/od/pillows/ss/How-to-Prevent-Protruding-Corners-on-Pillows.htm
