Okio B Designs

A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

What to do when you're sick and trapped in the house because of the snow?  You break out some chalk paint and paper mache egg crates and get busy.
I bought a pack of these from Michael's last week.  After a coat of DecoArt chalk paint, they look ready for spring - which I'm soooo ready for after yesterday's snow.
I dressed this one up with tea-stained seam binding, faux moss and some eggs.  The little nest tag was my finishing touch.
How perfect are these for Valentine's Day, Easter, etc.?

It's coming. We're expecting our first real snow storm of the season.  On top of that, I have my first cold of the season.  I'm hunkering down today, picking up the kids soon for early school dismissal and hoping my hubby (and all my bloggy friends in the path of the storm) stays safe on the roads.

You know you have a craft problem when you buy bottles of lemonade at the supermarket because you're already thinking of ways to embellish them.
In my defense, it was on sale and quite tasty.  Still, the beauty of the bottle was calling to me.
Thoughts of dressing them up with vintage lace and adding French touches made me giddy in the soft drink aisle.
So out came the vintage lace, while chugging the Strawberry and Blackberry flavors.
I'm down to one full bottle - plain ol' lemonade.  I'm sure I'll finish it before the end of the day.
Dare I go back and buy more or is that just plain crazy?

Happy White Wednesday!
Just some pretty little frames (from Michael's) that I dressed up with French chalkboard images.

I love the look of the heart Mason jars that have been popping up all over Pinterest.  I, myself, have pinned a few and yesterday I decided to make my own.
First I put my heart stickers on the fronts of the jars.  Then I used a spray chalk paint (the lighter pink) and an acrylic paint (the dark pink) on them.  Once they are dry, you carefully peel off your stickers for instant hearts.
Hands down, the spray chalk paint is my favorite of the two.  It covered better and it was easier to use a spray compared with a paint brush.  Plus, I felt the acrylic paint didn't cover the glass as well as the spray paint.
I sanded down each jar to give for a shabby look.  Super easy and so perfect for Valentine's Day.

If you've been to Target's Dollar Spot lately, you've probably noticed these little, zip burlap pouches.
Some already have pre-printed designs on them and some are plain, like these. I grabbed two of them and decided to add my own designs.
Using my Cricut, I created a J and then an anchor stencil.
I broke out a black fabric paint pen and simply outlined each design and then colored it in.
Super easy, right?  Just think of all of the possibilities!

I popped into Target over the weekend and immediately headed to their Dollar Spot.
Remember one of my new year's resolutions is to keep to a $100/month budget for crafting, clothes, etc.
I was able to get a few things that make for nice Valentine's Day touches.  These little bottles were $1 each.  The pink twine was also $1.
The candy hearts were 2 bags for $5.
For $9 (plus tax), I was able to stick to my budget and add some pretty Valentine's touches to my kitchen counter.  And I'll be able to use the bottles for future projects.  Winning!

I mentioned a few posts ago that I have a ton of these leftover mint tins from my son's communion.  Since I can't just throw them out, I transformed two more while trying to stay warm earlier this week.
I printed out my Marie Antoinette images onto label paper.  After tracing them, I simply cut, peeled and stuck them to the fronts of each tin.  I distressed some French book paper and added the strips to each image.  Each Marie also got a little bling.
I used more French book paper inside each tin.  I just ripped it and distressed it, and glued it in.  Both are filled with shredded vintage sheet music and pretty self-stick flowers.
And since Marie appears to be the theme this week, I also made a few pendants to add to my Etsy.

Happily, I had everything I needed for these quick projects!

It's literally a White Wednesday here today.  We had our first snow fall yesterday and it's bitterly cold.  Perfect for breaking out some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and shopping the house.
I bought these crowns from Decor Steals a couple of years ago. Here's what they looked like before:
I gave each a couple of coats of ASCP in Pure White.
I also broke out some stamps and hand-stamped joie and faith on two of them.
I'm still looking for my L so I can stamp love on the last one.  I'm pretty sure my boys hid it on me, lol.
Loving the new makeovers and that I was able to upcycle something already in the house.  Happy White Wednesday!

Happy new year everyone!  Now that all of our Christmas stuff is (sadly) packed away, I'm gearing up for, yup you guessed it, Valentine's Day.  I'm starting with these cute little peat pots:
I gave each a coat of white paint to start.  Then I added my love - or what's really Ikea's version of Washi tape.  I picked it up a couple of weeks ago during our last trip there.  It comes in a four pack with some other really pretty designs and colors.
After adding the tape, I broke out my hot glue gun and added some vintage lace and a button to each pot.  I tucked in some metal stars (coincidentally also from Ikea) that I made a couple of years ago.
I also used the tape for my love tin.  I have a bunch of these white tins leftover from my son's communion.  They are a little smaller than an Altoid tin, but still perfect for embellishing.

I already have these cuties about the house.
