I picked up three of these great urns at a garage sale recently. Three for $1.
The detailing is so pretty. The almost-mercury glass like look really caught my eye. So why then did I do this?????
My husband tried to talk me out of it. I didn't listen. I thought "chalk paint makes everything look better."
Clearly it does not. FAIL!

I always want to paint everything! And, it's not always the right decision. Maybe if you distress it to get a lot of the paint off and glaze it with black glaze or silver it'll look good. I'm sure you can make it look fantastic. Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad, I've done the same thing before and regretted it! At least you only painted one, maybe you could remove the paint (sand it off?) and it will look like mercury glass again:)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a fail at all, it just needs a little tweaking! Maybe go over it with some white or grey then rub it off so the silver glass shows through:)
ReplyDeleteLOL- Maybe you can "age" it a bit and make it look a bit "old". I do like the originals...lol xo Diana
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas above! Been there, done that!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and it's only $.33 down the drain!
ReplyDeleteI have done the same thing. This can be reworked by sanding and adding some glaze for an aged look. Or maybe repaint in a dark chalk paint. What a great find of three.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend. cm
It's good to know that even experts have things go wrong sometimes. You're so creative, you'll think of something else to do with it!
ReplyDeleteChalk paint always looks better distressed. And did you wax it. Chalk paint is dull but adding some wax (I use johnsons or minwax paste wax) adds a little sheen that brightens it up and keeps it from looking so blah.
ReplyDeleteWell, you still have the other two! Maybe sand it a bit and do some dark wax. I bet if you play up that detail on it, it will stand out nicely and you may wind up liking it.
