Okio B Designs

A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

Still no internet/phone/tv which means NO real blogging.  I'm dying over here!  Lots of projects to post but I have to schlep to the library for internet access.  Thankfully, the power came back on yesterday.  No cable though.

Anywho, the winner of the FragranceNet.com candle as picked by Random.org is Patti from Pandora's Box!  Patti, you lucky lady you, I think you won my very first giveaway a couple of years ago!  =)

Email me your info but it'll probably be another week before I can send.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Miss you ALL!

As expected, we're without power since Monday.  I'm at my Mom's soaking up as much internet as possible.  The current giveaway will be extended through next week.  I hope everyone is safe!  I'm still here - thankfully!

*I am posting ahead in case we lose power due to Hurricane Sandy.*

Hurricane Sandy is on it's way to New York.  I figure I better get some posts in before we lose power.  With Hurricane Irene in 2011, we went 6 days without power.  Ack!  Fingers crossed, it won't be as bad as they are predicting.  Yesterday, I ran a bunch of errands to prep for the storm and popped into Ikea.  I picked up this four-pack of little metal stars.
So petite that three easily fit into this vintage Jello mold.  I created the little banners using this font from Dafont.com.  Have you been there?  They have the coolest fonts.  Ever!
I just saved this carnival-inspired one to my computer and printed out "noel," "peace" and "joy."  I cut the paper into banners, distressed them a bit and used Glue Dots to place them on the front of each star.
A really quick and cheap project.  The set of 4 was $3.99 at Ikea.  The paper, ink and font were free.  And now I have some cute little holiday stars for my Xmas tree or I might just keep them in the Jello mold.

To everyone else in the path of Sandy, please be safe!

Remember this candleholder/candlelabra I picked up at a thrift store last weekend?  It was black and a bit grungy.  Here it is now:
After carefully removing the berries, I gave it a couple of coats of white spray paint.
Once the paint was dry, I had to re-attach the berry garland which was no easy task as it was in pieces.  I didn't want to have to use hot glue, so I just kind of bent them and wrapped them back on.  I added some of my French script candles for a Frenchy touch.
This will definitely be my centerpiece for the Christmas table.

I was able to get a few makeovers in this weekend.  First up is this little cloche I scored for $4 at a local garage sale.  I knew I wanted to do something Frenchy to it, and this Paris postmark was the perfect fit:
I'm pretty sure the image is from The Feathered Nest.  I have so many random images saved onto my computer that it's hard to keep track sometimes.
After giving the base a few coats of white spray paint, I printed off the image onto label paper.  I cut around the border and it fit perfectly!  Just peel and stick.
I haven't added anything to it yet because Halloween decorations have taken over the house, but once they are neatly tucked away, I'll be adding something to it and displaying it on my vintage desk.
