A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

I can't believe I haven't shared this thrifty makeover yet!  I'd been trying to find a wood toolbox for months now.  I finally hit the jackpot a couple of weeks ago.  This is the after ^.
Here is the before.  Yes, it came complete with tons of nails.  Yikes!  I gave it a few coats of white chalk paint and then did my usual sanding in random spots.  I finished it up with the wood embellishment - which I painted black.  We're using it on our patio table to hold flowers and holiday decor.
Unfortunately I didn't take a before picture of this picnic basket.  Believe me when I say it was your standard boring picnic basket.  I gave this one a few coats of white spray paint as the chalk paint was just not cooperating.
I kept it simple and just added a vintage hotel room keyring with some tea-stained seam binding.

I have a few more projects in the works.  We're waiting on Tropical Storm Elsa to come and go.  Fingers crossed we don't lose power.  Again.

Have you seen these metal Mason jar cutouts at your local Dollar Tree?!  Here's a quick way to dress them up: head on over to Pinterest and search up Shanty2Chic's kitchen conversions free printable.  I printed mine out on cardstock and used magnets to attach it to my Mason jar.

Literally a DIY in under 5!  And by using the magnets, you can switch out your image depending upon your mood.

Are you ready for some of my latest Dollar Tree makeovers?!

How about some coffee-dyed clothes pins?  I used their rub-on transfers for the numbers.  I love, love, love how they came out.  All you need is to soak some wood clothes pins in coffee (I used my husband's morning-old coffee).  Let bake in the sun to dry and then add your numbers.  The longer you soak; the darker the pins will be.
I'm a little obsessed with Dollar Tree's faux succulents.  I used their flowers & garden planter, and loaded it up with faux moss and plants.  Literally a DIY in under 5.

These wood boxes are probably my favorite.  I flipped them over and painted them white (chalk paint works best).  Once the paint was dry, I used more rub-on transfer numbers.  Add some French script and you've got yourself some stackable art.

These are just a few of the projects I've been working on.  Don't forget to follow me on Instagram (@okiobdesigns), where I post more often.

Now that it finally feels like spring here, the creative juices are flowing!  I'm sharing some quickie projects I did over the last week or two - like this hanging colander planter.  It's just the right size for these annuals.  (You can find the chain holder at Dollar Tree.)
Who doesn't love a good before and after?!  This metal candle holder was a thrift store find for 50 cents.
Here it is now after a few coats of white spray paint and the addition of my French script candles.
This old wood butcher block/cutting board was too big for my kitchen counter.  Order up one quickie makeover, please.
Again, a few coats of spray paint and some rub-on transfers from Dollar Tree gave it a completely new look.  I'm using it as a plant stand in my she-shed.

All of these were thrift store finds that only needed a little sprucing up!
