A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

Hats off to Target and Dollar Tree for stepping up their autumn and Halloween decor this year!
You know I've been a full-fledged bargain-shopper since my One Cheap B*tch blogging days (God, I miss that blog!) and now more than ever, I don't want to spend any more than I have to - on anything.
Are you ready?!  Because everything pretty much shown here is $5 and under: the fortune telling palms?  Only $1.25 each at Dollar Tree (Marshall's has larger versions for $7.99 and $9.99).  The gumball machines?  They are last year Target finds at $3 a pop (they're $5 this year).  Everything in the gumball machines are from Dollar Tree.  The tiered tray decor?  Mostly $1 from Target's DollarSpot.  The pumpkin candles are $3.  I'm not kidding!
The autumn gnome is also just $5.  Told you I wasn't kidding!

This is my favorite time of year and it's easy to go a little overboard.  But Target and Dollar Tree are definitely making it easier to stay on budget.

Can you tell I'm ready for fall?  I'm definitely over the heat, humidity and the lack of inspiration that comes with it.  I did manage to eek out these twine pumpkins earlier this week.  I grabbed them from the local thrift store and just added my embellishments.  Easy peasy!

And if you're by your local Dollar Tree, pop in for this adorable sign.

I found a wood cutting board at the thrift store on Friday.  I had been trying to score one for a few weeks.  After a couple of coats of white paint and some of these...
(I used the number Rub-Ons, of course) I have a new decoration for my kitchen!  Total cost: $1.75 ($1.25 for the transfers and 50 cents for the cutting board).

I love how it turned out!

Who else is feeling like you're in that weird in-between holiday decorating phase?  July 4th is over and it's too early to decorate for Halloween, sigh!  The solution?  I jumped over to Pinterest and dug up this sweet moon phases (free!) printable.  It fits nicely in this Dollar Tree rustic frame.  Hopefully, it will hold me over until my favorite decorating time of year...

It's hard to believe that July 4th is only a few weeks away.
I started breaking out the red, white and blue for Memorial Day and never put it away.  With tomorrow being Flag Day, and July 4th around the corner, I just re-arranged things a bit and added new pieces.
Just about everything displayed I already had...
Well, except for the Cracker Jack.  I bought a 3-pack off Amazon over the weekend and it landed today.  I made the red bead tassel yesterday.
I love showing off our patriotic pride.  I'm still playing around with everything a bit, and I have a few other ideas I want to hammer out.

Have you started decorating for the 4th yet?

A few years ago I noticed a suspicious spot on one of my arms.  After keeping tabs on it for a month or two, I finally went to the dermatologist.  And boy, am I glad I did.  The spot turned out to be pre-cancerous (yikes!).  Lucky for me, the dermatologist was able to freeze it off (two sessions of liquid carbon dioxide - ouch!).  Thankfully, the spot never returned.  Since then, I've been a stickler for sunscreen.  Here are some of my faves:

Banana Boat Sport Mineral Sunscreen

This budget-friendly option is water resistant for up to 80 minutes.  I like that it's gentle enough for sensitive skin, but offers protection for UVA/UVB rays.  The non-greasy formula is perfect for a busy lifestyle.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen Spray

I've been a big fan of Neutrogena since my 20s.  As a former acne sufferer, the brand has quite literally been a lifesaver.  Much like its skincare line, this sunscreen is non-comedogenic and oil-free - a big bonus for me.  I love the convenience of just tossing the can into my bag before leaving the house.  It's also priced right at under $10 (depending upon the retailer).

Coola Fragrance-Free Mineral Body Sunscreen SPF 50

This one is my splurge.  You may think $32 is a little pricey for sunscreen, however Coola uses 70%+ certified organic ingredients.  It's also fragrance free, vegan, gluten free and cruelty free.  Like the more budget-friendly options, this one also provides protection from UVA/UVB rays and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes.

Whichever brand fits your budget, I remind everyone of the importance of wearing sunscreen (even in the winter!).
