A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

I'm not sure where I picked up these fleur de lis candle holders.  I believe it was a couple of years ago at Big Lots.  Anywho, the candles got a little icky and wouldn't light anymore.
The glass has a kind of iridescent glow to it.  A little boring if you ask me so I got busy preparing for a quickie makeover.  After removing all of the gross wax, I gave each a couple of coats of flat white spray paint.
And here they are now!  Sooooooo much better and more my style.
I gave one a Paris address tag tied on with twine.  The other has some French book paper.
And a tag and French clothes pin.
I love the milky white color now.  They almost look ceramic.

I think they still make for some nice candle holders, but wouldn't they be cute to hold office pens, plants, etc.?!

I had my eyes on these since last year and now I think they are sold out.

Pottery Barn's LOVE votive candle holders.  If I recall, they were over $40 for the set.  Wha???????  Check out my $4 DIY knock-off version.
Of course I still have to add candles to mine.  Super easy to make, though.  I used the carnival font (the one I am so clearly fond of!) from DaFont.com.  I typed them into a simple Word document.  Space them out a bit because next you're going to print them onto clear label paper.
Simply peel and stick to your votives.  You can probably trim your label paper to your liking.  I don't mind the extra showing on mine.  Up close it actually makes the glass look frosted.

Not bad for $4.  The votives are from Michael's at 99 cents a piece.  I had a coupon so they were actually even cheaper than that.  The clear label paper is about $19 for a pack of 20 sheets but since I already had some - I spent zero on that.

What do you think compared to the PB ones?  Four dollars is definitely more my speed - especially given my new year's resolution on watching my spending.

Saw some lovely mason jar candle holders on Pinterest yesterday.  Since I have a ton of them, I decided to make a few myself:
I took some vintage sheet music and ripped it on both sides so it would fit around each jar.  First, I distressed the edges a bit for a nice aged look.
Next, I wrapped the sheet music around each jar and used a glue dot to hold the overlapping piece in place.
Tie a piece of twine around, knot it and done!  You have some super cute candle holders in a matter of minutes.  I'm thinking of lining these up our front walk for our next outdoor party!

We have a busy weekend planned, so I wanted to share some quick patriotic candle holders I made using some food cans.
Even though these aren't quite Memorial Day images, I think they still represent our patriotism.  I printed them out from the Graphics Fairy.  I mod podged each image on and then gave each a quick spray of clear paint.
Once the paint was dry, I added some German glass glitter and some random faux pearl embellishments here and there.  I used some tea-stained seam binding for the one in the middle.

I love that these cost me $0 and I can't wait to light them up over the long holiday weekend.  And of course, I want to thank all of our military members for their dedicated service.  God bless America!

Ever start a project and end up scratching your head halfway through?  That's what happened to me with these fleur de lis candlesticks.  I picked them up from a thrift store last week.  They were originally white but a little grungy.  I thought they would look good with a chocolate brown makeover but...
They went back to white.  I did indeed paint them brown but it was a flat brown and they looked, well, icky.  So I gave them a fresh coat of gloss white over the brown.  I did just one coat because I did want some of the brown to show through for an aged look.
Not sure if you can see remnants of the brown peeking through in my photos.
I added some French script candles to them.  The ones from my Etsy shop fit quite nicely.  I may have to use these for props when photographing them!

So three coats of spray paint later and I'm back to white.  At least it's not the original grungy white.
