A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

Hope everyone survived the madness of Halloween.  If I never see another piece of candy again, I would be quite happy!  I'm still getting over a nasty sinus infection so I didn't have much time to craft this week.  I did, however, finish up this wood tray that I started painting last week.
I had picked up the tray at our local church thrift store.  It was an ugly brown so first thing was to give it a few coats of white spray paint.  Then I was stuck.  I wanted to keep it simple and wasn't in the mood to Mod Podge.
With the French stencil I received from Etsy last week, the seller included a little Fleur de Lis stencil.  Voila!  Problem solved.  I broke out a Sharpie, yes a Sharpie, and stenciled it on the middle part of the tray.
I sanded parts of the tray and a bit of the Fleur de Lis to give it a more aged look.  I'm loving it's clean, simple look and am looking forward to using it during the holidays.

I'm not sure where I picked up these fleur de lis candle holders.  I believe it was a couple of years ago at Big Lots.  Anywho, the candles got a little icky and wouldn't light anymore.
The glass has a kind of iridescent glow to it.  A little boring if you ask me so I got busy preparing for a quickie makeover.  After removing all of the gross wax, I gave each a couple of coats of flat white spray paint.
And here they are now!  Sooooooo much better and more my style.
I gave one a Paris address tag tied on with twine.  The other has some French book paper.
And a tag and French clothes pin.
I love the milky white color now.  They almost look ceramic.

I think they still make for some nice candle holders, but wouldn't they be cute to hold office pens, plants, etc.?!

We just got back from a wonderful road trip to Virginia (Winchester).  My sister, Trish lives there and we try to visit her at least twice a year with the boys.  In addition to good conversation and some good eats, lookie what I found...
Hobby Lobby!  First time I ever went to one and my-oh-my, now I know what all you other ladies have been gushing about.  I could NOT contain my excitement!  My hubby and boys did not share my sentiments but I didn't care!
I picked up some great goodies that Michael's and AC Moore do not seem to carry here.
Some great new stamps and tags!  I plan on aging the clips.
Pretty fleur de lis doorstop and new French script stamp.
I thought the prices were surprisingly reasonable.  The little jar was only $5.99.
Of course, couldn't leave the South without stopping by Chick-Fil-A.  We don't have them on Long Island.  Yummy!

And my little guy lost his first tooth at the hotel last night.  I don't know how on earth the Tooth Fairy found us (wink, wink).

We also hit an outdoor flea market.  I'll share those finds tomorrow.

Good to be home and back to blogging.  =)

I popped into Unique Thrift Stores again.  I didn't have the boys with me so I was able to slowly go up and down each aisle and examine everything.  I spent about $10 and got these goodies that I will hopefully be transforming this weekend - weather permitting:
I love the little wood stand.  They had two but the other one was a bit wobbly.  Can't you just envision it in white chippy paint with a fabulous French graphic on top?
It's the perfect size for a stack of books!
The wood cutting board and shadow box I couldn't resist.  And I really love this wood carry-all (?!  Not really sure what to call it!).  Definitely going to get some coats of spray paint and I'm thinking of stenciling something vintage-y on it.
These little frames were $1.41 for all three.  I don't love the floral one - I mainly got them for the other two small ones which have a fleur de lis motif on them.

Here's to hoping I can get a dent in these over the weekend!

I'm not really sure what La Fabuleux means in French (note to self: Google it!) but whatever it means, I used it on this wood sign for my tea room:
I had one sheet of graphite paper left and since it was raining on and off all day yesterday, I decided to use it for this little sign.
I bought this image off of Etsy a year or so ago and I simply love it.  After painting my wood plaque white, I used the graphite paper to trace the graphic onto it.  I had one little oopsie with the 'b' in Fabuleux but I can live with it.
Once I was finished tracing, I sanded it down to give it an aged look and did one coat of poly spray to seal it.  Then I added the fleur de lis wood pieces and two little pink rhinestones to give it a touch of color.  I don't know about you but now I'm in the mood for tarts, napoleons and cheesecake.  Too bad it's Sunday!

Ever start a project and end up scratching your head halfway through?  That's what happened to me with these fleur de lis candlesticks.  I picked them up from a thrift store last week.  They were originally white but a little grungy.  I thought they would look good with a chocolate brown makeover but...
They went back to white.  I did indeed paint them brown but it was a flat brown and they looked, well, icky.  So I gave them a fresh coat of gloss white over the brown.  I did just one coat because I did want some of the brown to show through for an aged look.
Not sure if you can see remnants of the brown peeking through in my photos.
I added some French script candles to them.  The ones from my Etsy shop fit quite nicely.  I may have to use these for props when photographing them!

So three coats of spray paint later and I'm back to white.  At least it's not the original grungy white.
