A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

I survived Thanksgiving!  Hope you did too!  Our Xmas decorations are in full swing now given that according to my 6 year old, there are 26 more days til Xmas.
This was a Pinspiration.  I found something similar on Pinterest but now I can't for the life of me find the pin to show you.  I believe the pinner used metal letters to create their banner.  Mine are wood (from A.C. Moore) but I painted them a metallic silver for more of a metal look.
I hot glued beer tabs (yes, beer tabs!) to the backs of each letter so I could string them along a piece of twine.  This is is tied to our faux wrought iron bed.

A sweet little holiday touch for the bedroom.

I whipped up this quick holiday banner the other night.  It's super simple.  All you need is some sheet music, paper, glue, twine and clothes pins.
Using the same NOEL template I used on my Ikea stars (carnival style from Dafont.com), I printed out each letter onto white paper.  I cut each letter a bit smaller than my sheet music.  Glue them onto each piece of your sheet music.
Once they are dry, you might want to flatten under a book.  Mine curled a little.  I used a zigzag scissor to cut the bottoms just to give a bit of a pattern but you can leave them straight or cut however you might like them.  I used some of my Christmas clothes pins to attach them to the twine.  I was not in the mood for hot glue and the pins hold them just fine.

Two thumb tacks are ready and waiting to hang it up over the next couple of weeks.  See, told you - see easy!

Woo hoo!  Guess who got their internet back last night?  I'm so happy as I've missed the blogosphere and keeping up with all of your projects.  Here's some that I did while we were without power and climbing the walls:
I took two mason jars and spray painted one red and one green.  Once they were dry, I printed these sweet holiday images from the Graphics Fairy and Mod Podged them on.  Then I added a thin layer of Mod Podge over the images and sprinkled on some German glass glitter.
I finished each off with some white tea-stained seam binding.  I'm going to use these as candleholders during the holidays.
My boys destroyed our Scrabble game so I'm left with some random letters.  Lucky enough, I had the ones I needed to spell out "noel."  And they fit perfectly in this little Goodwill frame that I painted black months ago.
I added a burlap backdrop.  Loving the rustic look!

Two super simple projects to keep my mind occupied post-hurricane.  It feels good to be back and I can't wait to pop on over to see all of your posts that I've missed.

Hurricane Sandy is on it's way to New York.  I figure I better get some posts in before we lose power.  With Hurricane Irene in 2011, we went 6 days without power.  Ack!  Fingers crossed, it won't be as bad as they are predicting.  Yesterday, I ran a bunch of errands to prep for the storm and popped into Ikea.  I picked up this four-pack of little metal stars.
So petite that three easily fit into this vintage Jello mold.  I created the little banners using this font from Dafont.com.  Have you been there?  They have the coolest fonts.  Ever!
I just saved this carnival-inspired one to my computer and printed out "noel," "peace" and "joy."  I cut the paper into banners, distressed them a bit and used Glue Dots to place them on the front of each star.
A really quick and cheap project.  The set of 4 was $3.99 at Ikea.  The paper, ink and font were free.  And now I have some cute little holiday stars for my Xmas tree or I might just keep them in the Jello mold.

To everyone else in the path of Sandy, please be safe!

I popped into my local Goodwill earlier this week and came back with a lot of goodies:
The bucket was only 99 cents.
The candle holder was $6.99 - pretty pricey for Goodwill but I couldn't resist considering it came from Target where it was probably originally double the price.  I also got 5 little bottles that I plan to embellish.  First makeover is the bucket:
Can you tell I ran out of white spray paint?!  I had originally wanted to paint it white but I just ran out of it, so plan B of course was to paint it black.  Then I stenciled the 8 onto to some scrap fabric with a fabric marker.  Once that was dry, I sewed it onto a piece of burlap.  Hot glue to the front and done!  Right now it's holding some of my French script clothes pins.

Next up is the candle holder which I really didn't do too much to except that I added some of my hand-stamped joyeux noel candles.
I think it's going to look stunning on my Xmas table!
