Okio B Designs: glue dots

I popped into our local Dollar store earlier this week. They had these adorable reindeer ornaments. I scooped up two and gave them a quick Xmas makeover.

You've probably seen similar reindeer on Pinterest. I know, I myself, pinned a few different glitter versions.

For mine, I snipped off the cord that you would hang them with. Then, I printed off the words wish and believe using my favorite carnival font from DaFont.com onto plain white paper.

I cut the words down so they'd fit around the reindeers' necks, and stuck them on using Glue Dots.

Not bad for $2!

I had an extra box of these tin stars I got from Ikea before Christmas. I wanted to add a Valentine's Day touch to them so I headed over to The Graphics Fairy for these wonderful French pierrot clown images.

I printed them out onto cardstock and used Glue Dots to stick them on. I'm debating on whether or not to add red tea-stained seam binding or leave the twine. I kind of like the twine.

I'm displaying them in this cloche that I had filled with some pine cones for Xmas.

It was a garage sale find from the summer. I painted it white and added the Paris postmark - which is coincidentally also from The Graphics Fairy. They fit perfectly!

Really hoping Blogger gets its act together this week. I'm not sure if you've been having issues with uploading photos but I have...again. You have to add them using html which is such a pain for me. Sigh!

I still have a bunch of peat pots left over from the summer. Since I'm still avoiding the chaos of the stores and malls (and still working with what I already have in the house), I decided to make a couple of new embellished ones.

I gave each a coat of white acrylic paint. I tried my hand at doing a mixed media one with the little girl. The image is from The Graphics Fairy and with Newtown on my mind, I wanted to use something with a little girl or boy.

I printed out the image on cardstock and stuck it on with Glue Dots. I added some pink glitter to her wand and hat. Then I added some distressed French poetry book paper, the twine, number 15 and a Paris clothes pin. For now, the pot is filled with some shredded sheet music.

For the second one, I wanted to keep it simple. I added some French script on cardstock to the bottom. I had a leftover star from the peace sign I did a few weeks ago, so I added that to the top. This one is filled with faux Dollar Store moss.

I have a few ideas for some Valentine's Day ones but I promise, I am not starting Valentine's Day projects...yet!

My mom gave me a cute holiday book over the weekend: Deck the Halls from Country Living magazine. It has a ton of adorable holiday ideas and pages that you can rip out, cut and use for decorations. I spied a Santa and reindeer silhouette, and thought they'd look great in some of the glass ornament bulbs I got over the summer at a garage sale.

First, I scanned the tag images so I wouldn't have to cut the originals. I printed them out on regular white paper. Then I used my Cricut to cut them into an oval shape - to make them easier to add to each bulb.

I rolled them into a scroll to get them in, and then used splinter tweezers to un-curl them. Next, I added some faux snow to the bottom of each bulb. Tie on some tea-stained seam binding for a cute bow and then some baker's twine in red/white so they can be hung from the tree.

While I was at it, I used some miniature bottle brush trees for some simple ornaments too. I used Glue Dots to secure them to the bottoms of each bulb, the splinter tweezers to get them in, and then added some faux snow. I decided to skip the seam binding for these, and just added the baker's twine so we could hang them.

Super duper easy to make each of these!

My five year old picked out these paper mache stars at Michael's last week. I was really hoping to decoupage them using the tissue paper method, but - sigh! - it was not meant to be. The tissue paper got stuck in my printer not once, not twice but three times. And you know what they say about three times. Plan B:

I used some old French book paper and pages from the Romeo and Juliet book I got a couple of weeks ago. I covered each star with Mod Podge. Then I glued on the ripped pages from each book randomly all over each star.

While the Mod Podge was still a little wet, I added some flat glitter pieces (Martha Stewart Crafts). Once that was dry, I popped over to The Graphics Fairy and grabbed these two Victorian lady images. I added them to the fronts using Glue Dots.

Now, I am not calling these Xmas ornaments, although they will likely end up on our tree. For now, I'm calling them my Victorian lady stars. ;)
