A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

Remember those books I picked up last week at our local thrift store?  After a couple of coats of black paint and some creepy stickers, here they are now:
I found the images on both Pinterest and The Graphics Fairy.
I printed the images out onto label paper and simply peeled and stuck to each book once the paint was dry!
I have them displayed in our corner cabinet with some other Halloween goodies.

Remember that wood thingy I picked up on Friday at our local church thrift store?  Here's what it looked like before:
And here is the after:
Excuse the lighting.  I took my photos around dusk.  I thought I was going for a neat, artistic lighting effect, but what I got were some dark photos.  Doh!
Still, you get the idea.  I used this great French graphic from The Graphics Fairy and the Mod Podge technique.  I have to admit, I'm not as polished at it (Mod Podge technique) as my sister is, but I still like the look - even if I still have to get off some little paper nubs.
And I'm still not sure what to call it?  Wood crate?  Wood couch (c'mon, doesn't it look like a miniature couch to you?!)?  Wood display?  Whatever it is, I'm going to use it to display something pretty in the house.

Hope everyone's holiday weekend is off to a great start!  It's a bit overcast here today but I am hoping to get some garage sales in.  In the meantime, here's a cute autumn/Halloween project I did earlier this week using an old tobacco tin.
I saw something similar on Pinterest (although I think the person made it for Xmas) and since I had some old tobacco tins lying around, I decided to give one of them an autumn/Halloween spin.

First I covered the tin with some vintage sheet music from The Graphics Fairy.  Then I added the pumpkin image - also from The Graphics Fairy.

I wrapped some orange and black ribbon on the top and bottom, and some black tea-stained seam binding so I could hang it.  I finished up by adding some Dollar Store faux moss and random Halloween pieces.

I love when I have everything I need on hand - especially for seasonal pieces.  Next week is back to school here, and I'm looking forward to having more crafting time again!

Remember the scale bucket I picked up over the weekend at a garage sale?!  Here it is with its new makeover.
First, I gave it a few coats of flat white spray paint.  Then I printed off this great French grains image from The Graphics Fairy onto waterslide decal paper.  I added it once the paint was dry and am loving it!
It's just how I imagined it would turn out.  It was calling for some lavender.  Lucky for me, I have a few bunches lying around.
And here it is hanging in my tea room.

It's the perfect height for when I walk in and am greeted by the delicious scent of lavender.

After looking at a bunch of Where Bloggers Create posts, I decided it was time for me to get more organized.  My craft room doubles as an office, so I am a little limited to the spacing and shelves I can use.  I try to use as many baskets, canisters and penny jars as I can.
I took this Williams Sonoma sugar cookie tin out yesterday and gave it a couple of coats of white spray paint.  The cookie mix was long gone and it was the perfect size for an instant transformation.
I added this great French label from the Graphics Fairy to the front.  I printed it off on label paper so all I had to do was peel and stick.  And look what it holds perfectly...
...A whole lotta seam binding!
I've used this jar before for a Marie Antoinette makeover.  Since the original image kept peeling off, I scrapped it for this great French post card image (also from the Graphics Fairy).
Since I'm not sure what I'm adding to it, I left the label blank.  I'll probably end up hand-stamping the word of whatever I fill it with.

I'm slowly on the road to organization.  Maybe by next year's Where Bloggers Create party, I'll be ready!

I wasn't able to go garage sale shopping last weekend so I turned to items I had readily available for some quick makeovers.
Yup, food cans.  The big one is from a can of baked beans.  The smaller is from a can of alphabet soup (my little guy's favorite!).
It's amazing what a few coats of paint and some lovely French graphics can do to some lowly tin cans.
The images are from The Graphics Fairy, of course.  I used some waterslide decal paper again to add them to each can.  I noticed it works better on spray painted items rather than ones I've painted with chalk paint.
I filled them up with sand so I could add some of my French script candles.  I love the look and the fact that I'm recycling!  Will I ever look at tin cans the same way again?  Probably not!
