A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

I really love embellishing old tobacco tins.  I used to collect them so I have a nice stash of them just waiting to be transformed.  The first one I did was for Halloween.  My second one has more of a Frenchy touch.
I broke out the Mod Podge and some vintage sheet music to start.  I cut my sheet music to size and then Mod Podged it on.  Once that was dry, I added one of my favorite images from The Graphics Fairy to the front.
On the top, I added some vintage lace with fabric glue.  I love working with tea-stained seam binding so I, of course, had to add a bow.  The middle was missing a little something so I added the crown charm with a rhinestone.
A pretty rhinestone button attached to the seam binding adds just the right amount of bling.
The faux dried flower and grungy clip (maybe to hold a picture?!) were the finishing touches.

I think my next one will have more of an Xmas touch to it.

We had a lot of fun junkin' in Winchester over the weekend (even though it was 100 degrees).  Here's what I grabbed while we were there.
Love these vintage tags!
The flower frog was only $5 which I thought was a steal and the iron foot form was only $3.  I'd never seen an iron one before.  I have two wood ones in the house so this was a nice find.  Plan on using it as a doorstop.
My husband can't figure out why I grabbed this pulley.  I just couldn't pass it up for $5.  I'm sure I'll figure something out.
Lots of sheet music.  This whole stack was 79 cents.  Woo hoo!

We were going to try and hit some garage sales there too but we were all pooped out after the flea market and the heat.

We had two estate sales in the neighborhood yesterday.  While the boys were at school, I popped by both.  Holy moly!  Boy, were they loaded!
I could have gone crazy at the second one but the prices were a bit steep.  I might head over later today to see if there are any better deals to be had.
Love the religious statue.  I can't recall the saint's name though.  The chalkboards are real slate.  I can't stand the faux ones so I grabbed two of them.
I never pass up sheet music!  The scale is my favorite find.  It needs a good cleaning.  I'm debating on whether or not to paint it.  The Mason jar was 50 cents!
Not a bad haul.  I spent about $23 on everything.

Once again drawing inspiration from Pinterest for this little project.  I had bought a couple of paper mache-ish top hats before the holidays.  I never got around to decorating them for Xmas.  Plan B: use them for Valentine's Day!
I only have this one finished so far.  It's the bigger of the two I bought.  I used some vintage sheet music for the top and brim.  Wow, what a pain that was!
Then I covered the sheet music in Mod Podge and just sprinkled on some glitter which is hard to see in the photos - but it's there!  The lace is actually from a shirt I bought 5 years ago from Newport News.  It was sheer and lacey and something I hadn't worn in, well, 5 years.  I snipped off some of the bottom and tied it on.
Then I added the LOVE lettering and cupid image (from Etsy).  They are not glued on, just kind of tucked in so I can reuse my hat over and over again.  I mean, Easter is early this year!

I'm still working on the smaller one - hopefully I can finish it over the weekend.

Not exactly a banner garage sale day in this neck of the woods.  Maybe because it's been raining on and off all week?!  I did manage to pick up a few goodies this morning:
Of course, you know I never, ever pass up vintage sheet music.  I got two of them today.  The Romeo & Juliet book was a dime!  And not sure if you can tell but that little black thing is a candleholder you can mount to the wall.  I'll be painting that white.
Wrapping paper is another item I never pass up at garage sales.  These were only 50 cents each.  I like all of the compartments in the wicker basket.  For $1, it will be getting a robin's egg blue makeover to match the utensil basket I did over the summer.

I spent about $8 on everything.  This weekend we're hoping to hit Brooklyn Flea. I'm sure it'll be crazy overpriced but since we live so close to Brooklyn, I want to go just to experience it!

I don't know about you but when I craft, I just can't seem to throw out bits and pieces of paper, cardstock, etc.  While those random bits come in handy occasionally, they are taking over precious space in my little craft room/office.
In between the movies and pumpkin picking this weekend, I broke out this petite dollar store clipboard for a quick organizational makeover.  First I spray painted it white.  Once that was dry, I Mod Podged some vintage sheet music to the front.
The bits of lace on the top are some of those random bits and pieces I was talking about.  Luckily they fit quite nicely on top.  I used the cover from an old sheet music book to make a pocket for the bottom of the board.  I printed out the French receipt from The Graphics Fairy to add my miscellany wording.
Now I can nicely tuck in some tags that I use as thank yous for my Etsy shop, and other small random pieces that I just can't seem to part with.

My husband had some old clipboards tucked away in the garage.  I found them over the weekend and decided to give them a French-y touch.  Here is the first one I did:
First, I glued some sheet music to use as my background.  Then I hot glued the vintage lace around as a border.  The little white frame is from Michael's but I scored it at a garage sale for 25 cents.  I used a religious photo from The Feathered Nest in the frame.
Next came the dried flowers - tied with twine and hot glued on.  I also added some French poetry paper beneath the frame.  I typed up some words to Ave Maria using a French script font.  I distressed the paper a bit and a piece of wood, and added both in the corner.
Finishing touches were the rhinestones in the corners of the lace and the brown and cream tea-stained seam binding.
My husband wanted to know if I was adding it to my Etsy shop, but I'm keeping this for myself.  =)  I have it propped up in the tea room for now.  I can't wait to get to work on the other one.
