Okio B Designs

A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

While on our way to my Mom's for Sunday dinner, we came across a bunch of curbside garage sale loot.  Best part, it was free for the taking!
I grabbed this cute little concrete statue.  It had not one, but two old wasp nests tucked inside.  Gross!  But still a sweet find.
These plates are Limoges and there were six of them just sitting there.  Mine!
I found this great French/English dictionary after digging through loads of boxes of books.

My parents were kicking themselves because they had been there the day before and paid for their goodies.  Mine were all free!  The hubby also picked up a glass terrarium.

I hit a few garage sales and the local church country fair Saturday morning.  I hadn't intended on it, but I came home with a ton of great Xmas stuff!  Super cheap too - just the way I like it.
This candleholder needs to be cleaned up a bit.  I may paint it white, but I definitely want to keep the faux berries.  This was $1.  The little snowman ornaments were also $1 for the set.  I'm going to write each of our names on them for the tree this year.
The wood Santa and snowman were $3 each.  The original price tag said $19.99 for EACH.  Score!  The little cloche was $4.  I didn't buy it for the tree part, I bought it because I've been searching for cloches and can't seem to find one I like under $25.  It'll be the first thing to get a makeover this week.
The little trees with the bows were $1 each.  I want to have a tree or two in every room in the house this Xmas.  It's my goal every year but it never seems to happen.  This year I'm determined.
Last up, I did score some Halloween goodies too.  These candy corn ceramic bowls were $1 each.  I also got some ceramic pumpkin candleholders - also $1 each, random lace and fabric, and of course a few things for the kiddies.  Overall, I spent about $20 for everything.

Wanted to share some random garage sale/Goodwill/thrift store finds that I picked up this week.
I love this!  I'm not quite sure what it is.  The man at the garage sale said it used to go on the floor, on the bottom of the leg of an old radiator.  I thought it was something for a garden hose.
Either way, I love it's rusty, chippy goodness!  I'm definitely keeping it as is.  Thinking of putting a candleholder in the middle.  It cost $2.
This little table was only $5.  I'm planning on giving it a ASCP makeover this weekend.
It's been freezing here but it might be 70 on Sunday so I really want to take advantage of the warmth to paint.
I'm planning on doing nutcrackers up and down our stairs this year for Xmas.  Got the idea from Romantic Homes magazine.  The pirate one is from Goodwill.  The other is from a garage sale.  I only have three so I have to really get moving if I want to take over the stairs!
Last up is this wood tote.  Another Goodwill find.  Not sure if you can tell but it has snowflakes on it.  While I appreciate the snowflakes for Xmas, it's getting a Frenchy makeover.

Hoping to hit a few more sales this weekend.  On the hunt for those nutcrackers!

This is another garage sale makeover I did earlier this week.  I picked up this wicker basket last Friday.  I really loved all of the compartments in it and I wanted it to match the utensil holder I did over the summer.
I gave it a few coats of robin's egg spray paint.  I knew I wanted to add something to the front of it.  So while, the paint was drying, I printed out this great French label from The Graphics Fairy onto some coffee-dyed scrap fabric.
I was going to try to sew it on but that was an epic fail.  Plan B: spray adhesive.  Aside from temporarily glueing my fingers together, it worked really well!  You can't tell but I frayed some of the edges to give it a more aged look.
Now I have the perfect little set for entertaining!  I plan to use this one to hold napkins and maybe some condiments.

*Don't forget to enter my giveaway here!*

I picked up this little candleholder at a garage sale on Friday.  It was black when I bought it and here it is now:
First, I spray painted it white.  Then I used Mod Podge to glue on my French script paper.  I used it on the back panel and then cut a little strip for the rim.
I hung it up in my tearoom.  I added a new candle design from my Etsy shop to it.  This one had a little oopsie so I couldn't sell it but it's just fine for my tearoom.
For 50 cents, I have a sweet little candeholder now!  I had everything I needed for this project.

Not exactly a banner garage sale day in this neck of the woods.  Maybe because it's been raining on and off all week?!  I did manage to pick up a few goodies this morning:
Of course, you know I never, ever pass up vintage sheet music.  I got two of them today.  The Romeo & Juliet book was a dime!  And not sure if you can tell but that little black thing is a candleholder you can mount to the wall.  I'll be painting that white.
Wrapping paper is another item I never pass up at garage sales.  These were only 50 cents each.  I like all of the compartments in the wicker basket.  For $1, it will be getting a robin's egg blue makeover to match the utensil basket I did over the summer.

I spent about $8 on everything.  This weekend we're hoping to hit Brooklyn Flea. I'm sure it'll be crazy overpriced but since we live so close to Brooklyn, I want to go just to experience it!
