Of Snow Globes & Cloches

November 25, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
Brrrrrr...it's been bitterly cold here and we're waiting to hear if we're going to be hit by this crazy storm that is headed towards the East Coast.  Since the theme of the day seems to be snow, I thought I'd share some of my wintery snow globes and Christmas cloches. I have these all about the house this year.  This one is housing a glittery church ornament I picked up at Walmart.  No, that is...

Petite Christmas Vignette

November 22, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
I love dressing up this vintage school desk we have in our diningroom.  Of course, 'tis the season for some Christmas touches. I did a Pottery Barn knock-off with the noel letters.  I've been wanting to do it for literally two years.  I finally remembered to pick up the letters during my last trip to A.C. Moore. The snowman and reindeer are from Home Goods.  I made the framed holiday sheet music using a graphic...

Autumn Touches

September 15, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
I'm slowly bringing out some fall pieces to add to the porch.  It was sad taking down the beachy items that I had on there for summer. But as the seasons change, so too does our decor.   This is still very much a work in progress.  Some faux flowers from the Dollar Store fit nicely in a vintage jug.  The white pumpkins are from Home Goods.  I think they are about 2-3 years old...

Simple Autumn Vignette

September 05, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
This little, vintage desk sits in a corner in our dining room.  I change it out every season.  I started adding some autumn touches to it earlier this week. I'm still adding some pieces but here it is so far.  I found the autumn printable via Pinterest. What's wrong with this picture?!  Can you see it?  I didn't have an M Scrabble tile (thanks to my boys!) so I had to turn the W upside...

Home Goods Coat Hanger Makeover

August 03, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
This is another makeover from my AmVets loot.  It was/is a coat hanger that originally came from Home Goods.   First thing I did was give it a few coats of white spray paint (it was originally black) - hooks and all.  Then I sanded it down around the corners to give it a more aged look.   Then I popped on over to The Graphics Fairy for the bee with wreath image.  I needed...

Bigger Than a Bread Box

July 24, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
Or is it a milk tin?!  Whatever you call it, I picked this up at Home Goods a few years ago.  We used to have it on our porch but it didn't quite fit with my beachy decor, so off to the shed it went. I dug it out yesterday to give it a Frenchie makeover. This seriously took four coats of white spray paint to cover.  Holy moly, I was in a cloud of...

Home Goods Clearance Find

July 15, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
I'm battling a summer cold which has kept me homebound since Friday.  I finally made it out today...over to Home Goods.  I figured some retail therapy might be what the doctor ordered.  Lookie what I found on clearance: This pretty French cloche!  It was originally $12.99 marked down to $9.  Woo hoo!  Not sure if you can see but there is a crown and some other French etchings on it. See it now?  I love,...

Home Goods Placements Frenchy Makeover

May 15, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
I picked up a pack of these grain sack placemats at Home Goods yesterday.  They were only $9.99.  I knew immediately they'd be getting a quick Frenchy makeover. I printed out this great French image from The Graphics Fairy onto iron-on transfer paper.  And voila! Instant French placemats.  I would have liked to make the image a little bigger but I only had one sheet of transfer paper left so I had to use the 3"x4"...

Lantern Makeover

May 07, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
We've had these lanterns on our porch steps for years.  I originally bought them at Home Goods.  They were looking pretty beat up after being in the elements year after year. I love the shape of them though so I didn't want to toss them.  So I picked off some of the rust and gave them a quick makeover. Keeping with my beachy/nautical theme for the porch, I gave them a couple of coats of white...

Amazing What a Little Paint Can Do

March 29, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
I bought these lanterns from Home Goods about 5-6 years ago.  We use them on our porch but they started to rust a bit.  I didn't want to do dump them, so... I gave them a fresh new look with a couple of coats of this robin's egg spray paint.  Rust-Oleum, I believe. I'm going with a beach theme on the porch this summer and now they will fit perfectly with my vision.  And speaking of...

Easter Touches Here and There

March 10, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
It's been a really beautiful weekend here.  I almost feel like Spring is nipping at my heels.  The mild weather inspired me to put out some of our Easter decorations. A Spring nest propped onto a vintage typewriter. Nests and eggs are everywhere!  See the little bunnies tucked into the egg cups?!  I keep them out all year. More nests.  I have mason jars in a milk bottle carrier as our centerpiece on the dining...

Retail Therapy

January 23, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
Brrrrr...it's quite freezing here.  On days like this, I like to do a little online shopping since I'm not a big fan of braving the cold.  I'm still sticking with my new year's resolution of not buying stuff we don't need.  However, since I play Santa each year, these were some post Xmas gifts I bought for myself. Don't you love this little metal mail pouch from Farmhouse Decor Shop?!  For now I have it hanging in the...

Care for a Spot of Tea?

January 20, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
There is just something about these petite cups and saucers that scream Valentine's Day to me.  They were my mother-in-law's.  We saved them from the house after the hurricane and my bad, they've been sitting in our garage for weeks. I broke them out today and played around with them a bit.  They are just too sweet to put away. She had them on a metal stand which is a bit rusty now.  I'm trying...
