Okio B Designs

A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

I'm a firm believer that if life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.  Case in point, my broken dress form peat pot.
I bought some rub-on transfers from Joann's a couple of weeks ago.  Now, I'm no expert on rub-ons.  I've only used them a handful of times.  After rubbing for what seemed like forever, this transfer just didn't seem to be happening.  So I kept at it.
I must have moved it while rubbing because it didn't exactly come out intact.  As you can see, it looks, well, broken.  Rather than toss the whole thing and move on to plan B, I decided it still had personality and potential.  So I added some French book paper, a little flower bling and some shredded sheet music.  To me, she's perfect now!
And these are a few more I did with a little less drama.  They are in my Etsy shop.

I wouldn't say I've mastered rub-ons but I have it down to an inexact science.

Linking to Knick of Time Tuesday.

I just love dress forms, don't you?!  I have about 20 in the house of varying sizes.  Some are fabric; some are metal.  I think I have one in just about every room in the house.  Here is my newest one:
Someone posted a lovely dress form template on Pinterest.  I used it to make this cardstock tag that measures a little under 8.5" x 11".  First, I printed it out onto regular white paper.  Then I cut it out to use as my template.  I printed out the French script onto #80 cardstock and then traced the dress form cut-out onto the cardstock.
After I cut it out, I had the perfect dress form "canvas" to work with.  I used some ruffle fabric to make her dress.  At the top of the ruffles, I added some vintage lace for the "belt" and topped it off with a hand-stamped button which also has French script on it.
I added some rhinestones for a faux necklace of sorts.  Use a hole puncher to pop a hole in the top and add some twine to hang.

Isn't she sweet?

Hope everyone had a safe and happy July 4th!  Now that I can upload photos again, I wanted to share some random projects.
This is the dress form I got from Home Goods earlier this week.  Ain't she pretty?
I also picked up this birdcage while I was there.  I loved the one my sister Kathy (CreativeHomeExpressions.Blogspot.com) did last week.  I gave mine a quick birdy makeover.  I added some faux dollar store moss, hand-stamped muslin ribbon and this crown bird from Michael's.  And of course the pink butterfly.
This frame is a redo of a redo.  I originally spray painted it pink but I gave it a quick ASCP makeover using Antoinette - a softer pink.  The egg images are from The Graphics Fairy.
Last up is another redo of a redo.  This was a Goodwill find.  I had painted it white originally and hand-stamped some French images and such on it.  It got a bit dirty being outside, so I gave it a fresh coat of white paint and then added this image from The Graphics Fairy on both sides.  I added some tea-stained seam binding to both handles.  I have it in my craft room/office holding some supplies.
