Ikea is one of my favorite stores.  Every time I go there, I stock up on these pretty red-striped grain sack-ish dish towels.  I've been wanting to use them for a pillow for quite some time, and this weekend I finally took the plunge.
After measuring and sizing for my pillow insert (20"), I started by sewing three of the four sides together.  I then turned it right-side out and broke out some black fabric paint.
I just purchased this pretty French stencil from Etsy and it was the perfect size for my pillow.  It features a wreath design too but I was feeling a little lazy and just stenciled the wording and fleur de lis.
It took about a half hour to stencil and then I had to let the paint dry.  I made one little oopsie on the S in Paris.  You might not be able to see it, but it's there.  Once the paint was dry, I closed it up.
This is the first time I've made such a large pillow and used a pillow insert.  I really love the look and hope to make a few more this winter.

I've had this pitcher from Ikea for a few years now.  Last year, I added a coffee label to it using Mod Podge.  Unfortunately, it started to peel off.  Can't have that, now can we?  So yesterday, I gave it a new Frenchy makeover using waterslide decal paper.
I have to say this is one of my favorite Frenchy images.  It's making the rounds on Pinterest so be sure to download it when you can!
I simply printed the image onto the decal paper.  Then I give it a couple of coats of clear spray paint so the image wouldn't run.  Once that is dry, you add it to a bowl of water and within minutes the decal separates from the paper and it can be placed on your item.
What I love the best about decal paper is that the image looks almost painted on depending upon the surface.  For the pitcher, my husband had to do a double-take because he thought it was indeed painted on (as if I could paint that well!).

I have another pitcher in the works (also from Ikea).  Meanwhile, I'm running low on my decal paper so I'll be ordering more through eBay.

I have been waiting literally months for my local Ikea to get the pretty aqua blue kitchen cart that you've probably seen all over Pinterest.  Guess what?
I grabbed mine this morning!  Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!  I'm so very excited!  As soon as my hubby steps foot in the door, he's putting this baby together.  I'd do it myself but I don't have a great track record with assembling Ikea products.  Better to be safe than sorry!

Ikea has these sweet tart tin ornaments.  I forgot to take a before photo but they had a red gingham pattern in the middle and red ribbon to hang them.  I decided to give mine a Frenchy touch:
I used some distressed vintage French book paper for the centers.  My Cricut didn't have the exact circle size so my circles are a little smaller than the centers.
Once I glued the paper in, I added some enamel number tags and some little pink rhinestones.
I switched out the ribbon with some twine for a more rustic look.

They come in a pack of four but my 5 year old appears to have run off with the other two.  Once I find them, I'm going to make a couple more.

Hurricane Sandy is on it's way to New York.  I figure I better get some posts in before we lose power.  With Hurricane Irene in 2011, we went 6 days without power.  Ack!  Fingers crossed, it won't be as bad as they are predicting.  Yesterday, I ran a bunch of errands to prep for the storm and popped into Ikea.  I picked up this four-pack of little metal stars.
So petite that three easily fit into this vintage Jello mold.  I created the little banners using this font from Dafont.com.  Have you been there?  They have the coolest fonts.  Ever!
I just saved this carnival-inspired one to my computer and printed out "noel," "peace" and "joy."  I cut the paper into banners, distressed them a bit and used Glue Dots to place them on the front of each star.
A really quick and cheap project.  The set of 4 was $3.99 at Ikea.  The paper, ink and font were free.  And now I have some cute little holiday stars for my Xmas tree or I might just keep them in the Jello mold.

To everyone else in the path of Sandy, please be safe!

I've had this little Ikea jar for ages.  Tried to unload it at our garage sale over the summer, but no takers.  So after walking past it for the 1000th time this week, I decided to give it a quick makeover.  Excuse the dark photos, it's really dreary here today:
I knew I wanted to do something Christmas-y because this is actually going to be filled with goodies for my Mom.  I found this perfect angel image over at The Graphics Fairy.  I printed it out onto label paper, so all I had to do was peel and stick to the top.
And yes, I still have tons of this vintage lace leftover.  This was truly my best garage sale find ever because I think it cost me $1 and I still have yards and yards of it - two, if not three, years later!  I used my hot glue gun to add it around the jar.  I took one of my French script joyeux noel tags and tied it on with twine.  I finished up by adding some German glass glitter to the image.

I plan on filling it with little notes and photos of the boys.  I'll probably also add some other little goodies like trial size perfumes, soaps, etc. for her.  One gift down!

I wanted to make a grain sack towel for fall.  You see, I don't have a lot of fall decorations; I seem to have a lot of Halloween decorations.  So, I decided to make a quick grain sack using this image from The Graphics Fairy.  It's the same one I used on a bucket over the summer and it just screams FALL to me!
I used iron-transfer paper and simply ironed it onto this Ikea towel.  You can't see, but it has red stripes going down each side, and for only 89 cents a pop, I always stock up on them when I go to Ikea.
Up close, it really does look like an old-fashioned tea towel.
While I was at it, I also made this Halloween apothecary treat jar for the boys.  I'm probably going to add some candy corns to it this week.  I'll have to stock up because that is the one candy that disappears in minutes.  And yes, I'm guilty.  =)

I popped into my local Ikea yesterday and found these really cute apple baskets.  For only $9.99 each, I knew I could add a spooky twist to them.  So I did!
Because I also want to be able to use them for other holidays/seasons, I knew I did not want to spray paint anything on them.  I recently bought Cricut's Halloween cartridge, so I printed out this spooky graphic onto black cardstock.

I used Sticky Dots to stick it onto the front.  Now I can peel it off when Halloween is over and use the basket again and again!  I'm working on the other one as we speak.

I'm not sure how the paper will stand up to the elements, but I am planning on displaying these on our porch.

Guess who has strep throat now?!  Thanks to my adorable 4 year old, I spent most of the day in bed.
Yesterday I put together this quick vignette in the kitchen using the vintage Pilgrim crate I found at a garage sale last week.  (Not sure if I'll get any sales in this weekend - boo hoo!)  I am thinking of adding some colorful straws or vintage silverware to the mason jars.  The little pitcher is from Ikea and the French candle is one I made a couple of weeks ago.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day!  I was in chocolate heaven thanks to my hubby and boys.  In between my candy fixes, I decided to use an Ikea dish towel to make a faux grain sack pillow:
At first I was going to make it into a tote bag but I just wasn't feeling it.  Plan B was to use this great image from The Graphics Fairy and turn it into a pillow for our porch swing.
Ssshhh...don't tell anyone, but I kind of cheated a little as I just folded over one end so I only had to sew the other three.

It fits perfectly on the swing and my other grain sack pillow isn't lonely anymore.  =)

**There is still time to enter my giveaway here.**

If you saw the February issue of Romantic Homes, then you saw these little cuties from Ikea.
So cute and I love the colors!
I'm the world's worst cake baker so I appreciate the non-stick, squishy plastic they are made of.  However, my husband claims I failed on my New Year's Resolution not to buy stuff, but I gently reminded him it was: not to buy stuff I don't NEED.  I need these!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  I can't believe how fast it came and went.  Today was so dreary here that me and the kids actually started taking some decorations down.  Then we hit Target for some lights for next year.  Somehow I came home with two of these pretties:

Yup, Target already has some Valentine's Day items out.  So of course that made me start working on a Valentine's Day windowsill for the kitchen.

The pink glasses are actually candle holders from Ikea that I picked up last year.
And some of the reds that I had out for Christmas, I keep out for Valentine's Day.  How cute is that little heart pen?  In the dollar aisle!

My husband thinks I'm crazy but when in Rome, right?!  Besides, Target started it - not me!

I'm not the biggest fan of working with glitter.  Mainly because I always seem to make a mess with it.  But I do love the look in the end.  This week I broke out my German glass glitter and some Martha Stewart glitter for some quick Xmas touches.  First up is this old pocketwatch:
I've seen this look on Etsy and wanted to take a crack at it so when my husband dug up this old watch, I immediately staked my claim!
I covered the top part and part of the front with Mod Podge, and then I dipped the watch into my German glitter glass.  I love the icy/snow affect the glitter glass adds to it!  It's hanging from a piece of that plaid fabric that is quickly becoming my go to for holiday projects.
These little birdies are from Ikea.  They come in a package of 4 in plain white for something like $4.99.  When I saw them, I knew I wanted to give them a quick sheet music makeover.  I also added the French stamps and gave them a generous coating of the Martha Stewart glitter.  I left the backs plain - just with the sheet music.  I think they have a Pottery Barnish feel to them with the sheet music, don't you?
