Okio B Designs: thrift store

I was able to pop in to my favorite church thrift store this morning. Look at the goodies that I picked up for a mere $5.

I never ever pass up a bag of buttons! I'm not sure what the ceramic piece is supposed to be but I love the French writing so I grabbed it. It has a plastic topper?!

The cat head reminds me of vintage Halloween decorations.

The pyrex piece is definitely going to get a spooky Halloween makeover. I'm thinking something along the lines of a mad scientist. The little lantern is also scheduled for a quick makeover.

I couldn't pass up the wood pumpkin since I'm starting to put out some fall pieces on our porch.

Not a bad haul if I do say so myself!

Here's the first of my makeovers from yesterday's AmVets loot. Remember these wood candlesticks before?

Not very pretty. And here's the after.

I gave each a couple of coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Louis Blue. Once they were dry, I broke out some sandpaper and just sanded them in random areas for an aged look.

I love how the original brown wood shows through now. It's just enough dark to play off the light blue paint.

I added some of my French script candles which I think look pretty against the blue hue.

This is the first of many makeovers I have in the works. Thanks AmVets!

I popped into a local thrift store earlier this week. I wasn't in much of a buying mood but I figured I'd take a quick look. I walked out 99 cents lighter thanks to this petite muffin tin.

It's not vintage but for 99 cents, I knew I could give it a vintage farmhouse feel simply by adding some candles to the muffin slots. It's a look I've seen on Etsy and I just love it!

I picked up a bunch of these small candles from the Dollar store. And boy do they smell yummy!

I can't wait for a warm spring night to light these and just relax.

Total cost for everything: $2.99!

I picked up this little wood drawer at the thrift store last week. Luckily, it was mild enough yesterday to get some spray painting done. I gave it a few coats of white spray paint, sanded and then added some Frenchy touches:

First is this little file tag. It comes pre-packaged with several self-sticking tags and inserts for things like Family Photos, 2012, etc. I cut out some French poetry book paper instead and added that.

Then I headed over to The Graphics Fairy for the French graphics that appear on both sides.

I used the Mod Podge method to get the graphic on.

I'm loving this little drawer! It fits my peat pots perfectly so hopefully it will be useful for my new year's resolution of getting more organized.

It's quite the rainy, dreary day here. Perfect for sharing some Halloween decorations that I've put up so far. Won't you come in...

I've been wanting to do this mice look for two years. I bought some of the cut-outs from the Dollar Store and the others I did with my Cricut. The boys love how they seem to be leading up to the 5 year olds room.

This shelf is by our front door. I have to be careful not to put anything glass or breakable up there because things have a way of slipping off. The white pitcher is holding some tree branches that I spray painted black for an eerie look.

I picked up this little witches hat at the Bellmore Street Fair last weekend. The little wood tray is an upcycled thrift store find.

The skull snow globe I found at Home Goods and the tall industrial clip is from Decor Steals. I have to add a creepy picture to it.

I love this little antique desk. It sits in a corner of our diningroom and I love decorating it each season.

This tray normally holds some eggs and petite nests. Now it's home to a trio of skulls.

I'll be adding more photos in the next few days as Blogger is once again telling me I've reached my photo limit. Argh!

I have a serious bone to pick with Mother Nature today. After a gorgeous weekend, we're back to, yup you guessed it, RAIN. :{ For me that means, painfully dark photos and no painting whatsoever. Boo! Thankfully, I did manage to get this quick project done before the skies opened:

I bought this clam tote at the thrift store last week. I gave it a few coats of white paint. And I do mean a few...I ran out of spray paint. Doh!

Once the paint was dry, I printed out my French image onto craft paper. I've seen some other bloggers who tea-stain for an antique look but me being the impatient type I am, I just glued it on and gave it a coat of clear spray.

I was originally going to stencil the front and back but I couldn't think of anything clever to write so I stenciled some numbers on each side.

I used a plain ol' magic marker. Whoops, forgot to sand some of the bubbling stuff off on the top. Whoops!

Still, loving how it came out. And the lavender smells divine!
