Remember the scale bucket I picked up over the weekend at a garage sale?!  Here it is with its new makeover.
First, I gave it a few coats of flat white spray paint.  Then I printed off this great French grains image from The Graphics Fairy onto waterslide decal paper.  I added it once the paint was dry and am loving it!
It's just how I imagined it would turn out.  It was calling for some lavender.  Lucky for me, I have a few bunches lying around.
And here it is hanging in my tea room.

It's the perfect height for when I walk in and am greeted by the delicious scent of lavender.

Or is it a milk tin?!  Whatever you call it, I picked this up at Home Goods a few years ago.  We used to have it on our porch but it didn't quite fit with my beachy decor, so off to the shed it went.
I dug it out yesterday to give it a Frenchie makeover.
This seriously took four coats of white spray paint to cover.  Holy moly, I was in a cloud of white "smoke."
Once the paint was dry, I printed out some wonderful French graphics (found on Pinterest) onto waterslide decal paper.  Gave them a few coats of clear spray paint and placed them on the front and two sides.
Oodles better now!
For now it's sitting in my tea room until I find a more permanent home for it.

I wasn't able to go garage sale shopping last weekend so I turned to items I had readily available for some quick makeovers.
Yup, food cans.  The big one is from a can of baked beans.  The smaller is from a can of alphabet soup (my little guy's favorite!).
It's amazing what a few coats of paint and some lovely French graphics can do to some lowly tin cans.
The images are from The Graphics Fairy, of course.  I used some waterslide decal paper again to add them to each can.  I noticed it works better on spray painted items rather than ones I've painted with chalk paint.
I filled them up with sand so I could add some of my French script candles.  I love the look and the fact that I'm recycling!  Will I ever look at tin cans the same way again?  Probably not!

I've had this pitcher from Ikea for a few years now.  Last year, I added a coffee label to it using Mod Podge.  Unfortunately, it started to peel off.  Can't have that, now can we?  So yesterday, I gave it a new Frenchy makeover using waterslide decal paper.
I have to say this is one of my favorite Frenchy images.  It's making the rounds on Pinterest so be sure to download it when you can!
I simply printed the image onto the decal paper.  Then I give it a couple of coats of clear spray paint so the image wouldn't run.  Once that is dry, you add it to a bowl of water and within minutes the decal separates from the paper and it can be placed on your item.
What I love the best about decal paper is that the image looks almost painted on depending upon the surface.  For the pitcher, my husband had to do a double-take because he thought it was indeed painted on (as if I could paint that well!).

I have another pitcher in the works (also from Ikea).  Meanwhile, I'm running low on my decal paper so I'll be ordering more through eBay.

Happy Saturday!  Hope your weekend is off to a great start!  The sun is shining, the birds are singing and I was able to get some painting done.
This little tool carrier is from Michael's.  I bought it a couple of years ago.  It originally said blossom.  Sadly, it got a little dingy over the years so I gave it a fresh coat of paint yesterday.
Since I painted over the blossom, I added two chalkpaper tags - one on each side.  I used my Cricut and a roll of chalkpaper.  Quick and easy!
I added a painted book I did (more in the works!) with some vintage French poetry pages, some painted peat pots and an embellished bottle I've posted about before.
The sides were missing a little something, so I added this great grain image from The Graphics Fairy.  It's one of my favorites.  I've used it on tea towels and a few other projects.
I printed the image out onto waterslide decal paper and gave it a few coats of clear spray paint to seal the image.  Within a few minutes, I dunked it in water and peeled off my labels to put on each side.
The best part about this project?  I had everything I needed!  Some of you have inquired about the decal paper.  I bought mine off of eBay for about $9 for 10 sheets.  Believe me, it's worth it!

I picked up two of these little metal buckets from Target (in their $1 section) last week.  They were $2 each.  I broke out some Annie Sloan chalk paint to give them a shabby/Frenchy makeover.
First I gave each bucket 2 coats of ASCP.  I wasn't worried about being sloppy because I wanted them to have a shabby/chippy paint look.
Next I printed off my graphics onto waterslide decal paper.  (I told you I'm obsessed with this paper!  I use it every chance I get!).  I give the images a couple of coats of clear spray paint so the image won't run.  Once that's dry, simply dip into a pan of water and the sticker part will separate from the paper.
Of course you have to play with the sticker a bit to get it perfect (or close to perfect as in my case).  Push out the air bubbles and voila!
As you can see, my new buckets are sitting in my new Ikea kitchen cart.  The hubby and 7 year old put it together for me last night.  I love it!

I picked up this little wood plaque a few months ago at the local church thrift store.  Last night I gave it a few coats of white paint and decided to make a sweet little French bird plaque with it:
I used some waterslide decal paper again.  I had used it a couple of weeks ago on a terrarium and love the look.  I used this great French bird image which is floating all around Pinterest.
The plaque is small - maybe 5x8, so I printed a 4x6 version of the image to use.  Once I had the image sitting just right, I added some natural raffia ribbon by just tying it on the one side.  Not sure if you can see, but there is also a pink rhinestone just beneath the bird's feet.

Super simple and now I have a sweet little plaque for my guest room.

I've been super curious about using waterslide decal paper in my crafts.  As luck would have it, my boys needed it for their Cub Scout derby cars.  I found some on eBay and put aside a few sheets for them and for myself.  I tried it last night and I can tell you, I'm already hooked!
I used this thrift store terrarium that I picked up last week.  It was black but I gave it some coats of white paint over the weekend.
To do the waterslide method, you, of course need the special paper.  I bought inkjet sheets for mine.  I printed this wonderful image from the Graphics Fairy onto the sheet.  No need to reverse or mirror the image for this paper.
I gave it a couple of coats of clear spray paint to seal in the image.  Once your spray paint is dry, fill a shallow bowl with water.  Put your image in for 1 minute.  Mine curled at first so I had to hold it down.  I also wasn't sure how the decal came off so I started trying to peel the white paper.  Nope, the decal is a see-through film so that's what you're looking to separate from the paper backing.
Peel the film from the backing - be careful because it curls rather quickly.  Add it to your surface and use a sponge to work out the air bubbles.  That took a little time and my corners kept folding under but I carefully unfolded them so everything sat flush.

I have to say I love this method more than the Mod Podge method which I just haven't been able to master.  I have a few more sheets left and I can't wait to brainstorm some new places to use them.  Email me if you need any more tips!
