A craft, food, fashion, home & shopping blog

Tinkering with some Dollar store match boxes over the weekend and came up with some petite pretties.
I used some French book paper and religious images found on Etsy to dress them up. Slide open the box and...
You find a little surprise inside.  A small square religious metal - also made using the Etsy images.
These would be sweet to give as a gift, but I must admit...these are for me!

I picked up a few Xmas ornaments over the weekend at our local Dollar store.  They are super cute and glittery, but definitely missing a little something-something.
I can't make a paper snowflake to save my life so I immediately grabbed a three-pack of these glitter snowflakes.  I printed out some religious images onto label paper to start.
The images are super small which was ideal for this project because the middle of each snowflake is no bigger than an inch and a half.
Next, I cut out some French book paper and distressed it a bit.  I added a strip to each snowflake with a good ol' fashioned glue stick.
Loving them so much more now that they have a Frenchy touch!  I also picked up two glittery bells.
They got a Frenchy touch too.  Une etoile means star.
And jouir means to enjoy.  I used vintage French flashcards and tea-stained seam binding to add to each bell.

I love that I have some new Xmas ornaments for only $3!

I always have a bunch of Dollar store prayer candles lying around. Each year, I try to do a new style for Xmas.
This year, I started by wrapping each candle in vintage sheet music. I picked up the glitter stars from Michael's.  They are self-sticking so I added one to the front of each candle.
I added some rhinestone bling above the stars.  If you remember, I picked up a French dictionary over the summer.  I flipped through the pages and took out the ones that had joyeux and noel.
I photocopied the pages, cut them down and glued them to the front of each star.  Just the right Frenchy touch for the season!

I popped into our local Dollar store earlier this week.  They had these adorable reindeer ornaments.  I scooped up two and gave them a quick Xmas makeover.
You've probably seen similar reindeer on Pinterest.  I know, I myself, pinned a few different glitter versions.
For mine, I snipped off the cord that you would hang them with. Then, I printed off the words wish and believe using my favorite carnival font from DaFont.com onto plain white paper.
I cut the words down so they'd fit around the reindeers' necks, and stuck them on using Glue Dots.

Not bad for $2!

When I saw Martha Stewart's black snake wreath floating around on Pinterest, I just knew I had to make one for Halloween.
I had a random wreath hanging around and some fake snakes (from the Dollar Store) left over from last year.  I spray painted the wreath black and then used my hot glue gun to add the snakes (which were already black).
The snakes are a little bigger than I remembered.  Either that or my wreath is a little smaller than I remembered.  Ha!  Regardless, I do like the look and am happy because I had everything I needed on hand for this quick Halloween knock-off.

I popped into a local thrift store earlier this week.  I wasn't in much of a buying mood but I figured I'd take a quick look.  I walked out 99 cents lighter thanks to this petite muffin tin.
It's not vintage but for 99 cents, I knew I could give it a vintage farmhouse feel simply by adding some candles to the muffin slots.  It's a look I've seen on Etsy and I just love it!

I picked up a bunch of these small candles from the Dollar store.  And boy do they smell yummy!
I can't wait for a warm spring night to light these and just relax.

Total cost for everything: $2.99!

There is this marvelous photo floating around Pinterest of an Easter nest in an urn.  Perhaps, you've seen it?  I was so excited because I had all of the components I needed for a quick copycat.
I got this little urn a few weeks ago at Goodwill.  It's the perfect size to add a little nest.  It could probably use a few coats of paint but I do like the chippy look.
I added some faux green moss from the Dollar Store and perched my little nest on top.  Then I added my little bunny - which I can't for the life of me remember where I got it.

Super simple and a sweet Easter copycat!

Finally!  The sun is shining and the temperature is mild here today.  Woo hoo!  It instantly changes my mood and gets me back into crafting mode.  Last night I decided to turn this vintage sugar bowl into a pretty pin cushion.
I always seem to have a ton of fabric remnants floating around and this one reminds me of spring so I immediately grabbed it.  The sugar bowl is something my hubby found at an estate sale last year.  Last Easter I had it dressed up with faux Dollar Store moss and some eggs, but I decided to give it a more practical makeover since I'm always looking for my pins.
I used a plate to cut a fabric circle.  Then I started looping in my thread - leaving enough at the ends so I could pull it together to form my pin cushion.
Then I filled it with Polyfil and tied my two thread ends together to close it up.  A little hot glue around the bottom of the fabric and I'm good to go!  And since spring is on my mind (obviously!), I added a little spring bird tag.  This literally took me all of 10 minutes and now I have a sweet new place to stick my pins.

Anyone else ready for spring?  I'm counting down the days after a horribly cold week here.  Peat pots always make me think of warmer days, so I embellished a couple over the weekend while we were staying warm indoors.
First I gave them a coat of white acrylic paint.  Then I ran some tissue paper through a printer to get these great French graphics.
I used Mod Podge to adhere them to each pot.  I love how the tissue paper seems to disappear and you're left with a beautiful image.
I finished them off with a simple faux pearl and stuffed them with faux Dollar Store moss.  They'll be ready for some spring touches in just a few weeks!

Look at these cuties from the Dollar Store.  A pair of glittered reindeers - what's not to love?
I picked up a few this morning to add around the house.  Look how adorable the little bells are too!  And as we're decorating for Xmas, nothing like the smell of...
Warm cinnamon!  We break up cinnamon sticks, add water and boil until the house smells wonderful!  And speaking of wonderful, I've started my Etsy Cyber Monday code today.  Use CYBERMON for 35 percent off in my shop: Okio B Designs.

I don't know about you but when I craft, I just can't seem to throw out bits and pieces of paper, cardstock, etc.  While those random bits come in handy occasionally, they are taking over precious space in my little craft room/office.
In between the movies and pumpkin picking this weekend, I broke out this petite dollar store clipboard for a quick organizational makeover.  First I spray painted it white.  Once that was dry, I Mod Podged some vintage sheet music to the front.
The bits of lace on the top are some of those random bits and pieces I was talking about.  Luckily they fit quite nicely on top.  I used the cover from an old sheet music book to make a pocket for the bottom of the board.  I printed out the French receipt from The Graphics Fairy to add my miscellany wording.
Now I can nicely tuck in some tags that I use as thank yous for my Etsy shop, and other small random pieces that I just can't seem to part with.

It's quite the rainy, dreary day here.  Perfect for sharing some Halloween decorations that I've put up so far.  Won't you come in...
I've been wanting to do this mice look for two years.  I bought some of the cut-outs from the Dollar Store and the others I did with my Cricut.  The boys love how they seem to be leading up to the 5 year olds room.
This shelf is by our front door.  I have to be careful not to put anything glass or breakable up there because things have a way of slipping off.  The white pitcher is holding some tree branches that I spray painted black for an eerie look.
I picked up this little witches hat at the Bellmore Street Fair last weekend.  The little wood tray is an upcycled thrift store find.
The skull snow globe I found at Home Goods and the tall industrial clip is from Decor Steals.  I have to add a creepy picture to it.
I love this little antique desk.  It sits in a corner of our diningroom and I love decorating it each season.
This tray normally holds some eggs and petite nests.  Now it's home to a trio of skulls.

I'll be adding more photos in the next few days as Blogger is once again telling me I've reached my photo limit.  Argh!

Quick, easy project for today!  I got these pumpkin-scented candles from the Dollar Store earlier this week.  After peeling off their generic labels, I thought they were missing a little something.  I headed over to The Graphics Fairy and added this great vintage pumpkin label to each one:
I printed the image onto label paper so all I had to do was crop, peel and stick!
I thought adding twine to the top would add a nice autumn touch as well.

For $2, I now have some yummy smelling candles to add to my fall decor.

I am itching to get my Halloween decorations up, but I'm trying to wait another week so my neighbors don't think I'm crazy.  I found a way to soothe the itch by adding some Halloween touches to my tearoom!
Yesterday, I popped into the dollar store and bought the black netting which I'm using as a small tablecloth.  I also picked up a few black crows to scatter about.
The witches' hat I got at Michael's over the weekend.  It was just a plain craft color so I gave it a few coats of black paint.  I added some tea-stained orange and black seam binding above the brim.  The creepy lady, poison label and banner are from The Graphics Fairy.  For the banner, I typed up Happy Halloween in word and then just played around with it until it fit into the banner.
Not sure if you can see the spider ring at the top of the hat.  One of my little guys added that!

In a few weeks, my quaint, little, girly tearoom will look like a haunted house!

I can't seem to get enough of cloches.  I have to admit, I'm running out of places to display them in the house.  That did not deter me last week, though, when I found my latest one at my Mom's local Goodwill.
The first one I made over, I did pink so I wanted to do a robin's egg blue this time.  I gave it a few coats of spray paint and then sanded some random areas for a time-worn look.
I'm not really loving the faux moss I have in there now.  I think I'm going to have to switch it out with a darker color that the Dollar Store sells.
One more look.  This is actually on top of my refrigerator where it will likely stay until I find a new spot for it.  What's nice is, it matches the touches of aqua I already have in the kitchen so maybe, just maybe, it will stay put.  Minus the faux moss.

I went to my local Michael's over the weekend and nearly died laughing when I saw what they were calling a redneck wine glass!  They glued a mason jar to a candlestick:
They added some red paint and affectionately called it a redneck wine glass.  As luck would have it, I had a dollar store candlestick and a mason jar available, so I made one.
I'm using mine to hold my hydrangeas - not wine.
So simple to make.  You just need a candlestick, mason jar and E6000 or similar glue.  And some wine...=)
