~garden stakes~

June 08, 2022 / BY Okio B Designs
Here's an easy project that only requires a small amount of time and supplies.  You'll need some Dollar Tree garden stakes, Mod Podge, paper and a printer.Once you grab your Dollar Tree supplies, head on over to The Graphics Fairy for some amazing vintage vegetable images.  I found the ones I wanted and printed them off to the smallest setting my printer would allow.Next, simply rip out your images.  (I distressed the edges of mine...

Back to My Jewelry Roots

June 25, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
Long before I was a wife and mother, I started my crafting endeavors by making jewelry.  It was the perfect distraction for what seemed at the time to be a stressful life (little did I know!).  When I first started my Etsy shop, I had some earrings and necklaces in there that quickly sold and that was the end of that. Over the weekend I popped into Michael's and saw some nice jewelry templates from...

Dressed Up Seed Peat Pots

March 12, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
I'm looking forward to a fruitful garden this year.  My dad has offered to help me pick the perfect spots in our yard.  You see, we do well with tomatoes and cucumbers, and some random herbs, but my eggplant and green peppers never seem to take off.  Anywho, I decided to start early this year with some of our seeds.  Of course, I had to dress up my peat pots just a little. These mini peat...

Frenchy Peat Pots

January 27, 2013 / BY Okio B Designs
Anyone else ready for spring?  I'm counting down the days after a horribly cold week here.  Peat pots always make me think of warmer days, so I embellished a couple over the weekend while we were staying warm indoors. First I gave them a coat of white acrylic paint.  Then I ran some tissue paper through a printer to get these great French graphics. I used Mod Podge to adhere them to each pot.  I...

Angel Snow Globe and Tags

November 30, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I have to admit, I'm a bit addicted to making these mason jar snow globes.  First batch, I used some faux snow and bottle brush trees.  This time, I used this pretty boy angel image from The Graphics Fairy: I printed the image onto cardstock.  Then I added some German glass glitter.  I wanted it to be able to stand so I cut a slit on the bottom of the picture and then used an...

Goodwill Wood Tote Holiday Makeover

November 28, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I finally got around to finishing up this wood tote I bought at Goodwill over the summer.  I had painted it red, but then it just sat and sat in the garage.  I asked my boys what they thought I should add to it.  Santa won hands down. First I gave it like a gazillion coats of red paint.  It was originally white with silver snowflakes on it.  Try as I might, those darn snowflakes...

White Wednesday

October 17, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I picked up this little table a week ago from a garage sale.  I gave it a quick makeover using some Annie Sloan chalk paint and a French graphic I bought from Etsy some time ago. I gave it two coats of ASCP on Sunday when it was semi-warm out.  Yesterday morning, I took my reversed image and Mod Podged it to the top.  Eight hours later, I used a wet paper towel to remove...

Seeing Stars

October 15, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
My five year old picked out these paper mache stars at Michael's last week.  I was really hoping to decoupage them using the tissue paper method, but - sigh! - it was not meant to be.  The tissue paper got stuck in my printer not once, not twice but three times.  And you know what they say about three times.  Plan B: I used some old French book paper and pages from the Romeo and...

My First Mod Podge Transfer

July 18, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I've been dying to try the Mod Podge transfer method for months now.  I finally took the plunge last night using a pail duo that I got at Goodwill yesterday. First I painted over the floral pattern with white spray paint.  Once that was dry, I used ASCP in Antoinette for a pretty, pale pink color. I printed off this great French grain image (be sure to mirror the image first) on plain white paper. ...

Bathroom Tile Magnets

April 29, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Feeling better and enjoying some gorgeous weather here today - yay!  Didn't get much garage sale shopping in but we did start organizing stuff for our garage sale next month.  While, cleaning up the garage, I found some bathroom tiles that we've had forever. I just can't seem to toss them.  So I stared at them for awhile this morning and thought: wouldn't they make for some cute refrigerator magnets? So I made some!  I bought this...

Home Goods Makeover After

April 01, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Remember that Home Goods wood tote I posted about last week (here)?  Here it is now: I originally wanted to paint it white but I ran out half way through.  Plan B: pink.  I wanted to make it really girly and yes, it is in our bathroom - right on top of the loo (so much nicer than saying toilet).  The starfish hand towels are from Pottery Barn.   I added some vintage lace on...

The 4 Year Old's Table Makeover

March 25, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
A couple of weeks ago, my 4 year old and I saved this cute little table from someone's trash.  As I was putting it in the car, he asked if he could have it for his room.  It was originally black but here it is now: I gave it a few coats of white spray paint. Then I let him pick out a Spongebob picture to add to the top.  We decoupaged it on using Mod...

Last Minute Xmas Touches From the Dollar Store

December 15, 2011 / BY Okio B Designs
I can't believe there are 10 more days until Christmas!  I made a couple of last minute holiday pieces yesterday.  Both from the Dollar Store: These itty bitty candles are maybe 2 inches tall.  I printed out the great vintage image from The Graphics Fairy (wallet-size!) and used Mod Podge to glue them to the glass.  After the second coat dried, I simply added two little red rhinestones which I think work perfectly with the vintage...
