Because Monday's Stink Giveaway

October 28, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
*I am posting ahead in case we lose power due to Hurricane Sandy.* Let's face it.  Who really likes Mondays?  To ease some of the pain of the start of another work week, I'm hoping to do at least one giveaway a month on Mondays starting today!  Up first is some great scented candles from FragranceNet.com's Exceptional...For Your Home collection. Founded in 1997, FragranceNet.com is the leading online retailer of discounted genuine brand name fragrances...

Metal Stars

October 27, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Hurricane Sandy is on it's way to New York.  I figure I better get some posts in before we lose power.  With Hurricane Irene in 2011, we went 6 days without power.  Ack!  Fingers crossed, it won't be as bad as they are predicting.  Yesterday, I ran a bunch of errands to prep for the storm and popped into Ikea.  I picked up this four-pack of little metal stars. So petite that three easily fit...

Thrift Store Candlelabra

October 26, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Remember this candleholder/candlelabra I picked up at a thrift store last weekend?  It was black and a bit grungy.  Here it is now: After carefully removing the berries, I gave it a couple of coats of white spray paint. Once the paint was dry, I had to re-attach the berry garland which was no easy task as it was in pieces.  I didn't want to have to use hot glue, so I just kind of...

French Cloche

October 23, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I was able to get a few makeovers in this weekend.  First up is this little cloche I scored for $4 at a local garage sale.  I knew I wanted to do something Frenchy to it, and this Paris postmark was the perfect fit: I'm pretty sure the image is from The Feathered Nest.  I have so many random images saved onto my computer that it's hard to keep track sometimes. After giving the base a...

Holy Moly Holiday Garage Sale Stuff

October 21, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I hit a few garage sales and the local church country fair Saturday morning.  I hadn't intended on it, but I came home with a ton of great Xmas stuff!  Super cheap too - just the way I like it. This candleholder needs to be cleaned up a bit.  I may paint it white, but I definitely want to keep the faux berries.  This was $1.  The little snowman ornaments were also $1 for the set. ...

Upcycled Ikea Jar

October 20, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I've had this little Ikea jar for ages.  Tried to unload it at our garage sale over the summer, but no takers.  So after walking past it for the 1000th time this week, I decided to give it a quick makeover.  Excuse the dark photos, it's really dreary here today: I knew I wanted to do something Christmas-y because this is actually going to be filled with goodies for my Mom.  I found this perfect angel...

White Wednesday

October 17, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I picked up this little table a week ago from a garage sale.  I gave it a quick makeover using some Annie Sloan chalk paint and a French graphic I bought from Etsy some time ago. I gave it two coats of ASCP on Sunday when it was semi-warm out.  Yesterday morning, I took my reversed image and Mod Podged it to the top.  Eight hours later, I used a wet paper towel to remove...

Seeing Stars

October 15, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
My five year old picked out these paper mache stars at Michael's last week.  I was really hoping to decoupage them using the tissue paper method, but - sigh! - it was not meant to be.  The tissue paper got stuck in my printer not once, not twice but three times.  And you know what they say about three times.  Plan B: I used some old French book paper and pages from the Romeo and...

Some Random Thrifty Finds

October 13, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Wanted to share some random garage sale/Goodwill/thrift store finds that I picked up this week. I love this!  I'm not quite sure what it is.  The man at the garage sale said it used to go on the floor, on the bottom of the leg of an old radiator.  I thought it was something for a garden hose.  Either way, I love it's rusty, chippy goodness!  I'm definitely keeping it as is.  Thinking of putting...

Accidental Burlap Angel Wings

October 12, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I swear, I'm not making Xmas items yet.  I swear!  This project happened quite by mistake.  You see, I was trying to make a bat ornament of sorts and it ended up like this: Burlap angel wings!  I'm not quite sure what went wrong with my original bat design, but the head just wasn't coming out right.  So I chopped it off and have the first of many Xmas projects. So you see, I am...

French Basket

October 11, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
This is another garage sale makeover I did earlier this week.  I picked up this wicker basket last Friday.  I really loved all of the compartments in it and I wanted it to match the utensil holder I did over the summer. I gave it a few coats of robin's egg spray paint.  I knew I wanted to add something to the front of it.  So while, the paint was drying, I printed out this...

Upcycled Garage Sale Candleholder

October 09, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
*Don't forget to enter my giveaway here!* I picked up this little candleholder at a garage sale on Friday.  It was black when I bought it and here it is now: First, I spray painted it white.  Then I used Mod Podge to glue on my French script paper.  I used it on the back panel and then cut a little strip for the rim. I hung it up in my tearoom.  I added a new candle...

My Adventures at Brooklyn Flea

October 07, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Yesterday was an absolute perfect day to hit Brooklyn Flea.  It was our first time ever going and on Saturdays it's located in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn.  I am originally from Flatbush but I was way too young when we moved to remember where in the world Fort Greene was.  Thanks to GPS we found it!  Hold onto your hats! This was definitely a junkin' lover's dream.  Checkout that vintage scale on the...

Friday's Garage Sale Finds

October 05, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
Not exactly a banner garage sale day in this neck of the woods.  Maybe because it's been raining on and off all week?!  I did manage to pick up a few goodies this morning: Of course, you know I never, ever pass up vintage sheet music.  I got two of them today.  The Romeo & Juliet book was a dime!  And not sure if you can tell but that little black thing is a candleholder...

Painted Pumpkins

October 02, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
This is the first year I've ever painted pumpkins.  I don't know why I didn't do it sooner!  I love the look.  Kind of a nice break from the usual orange. All you need is a couple of cans of spray paint.  I used a flat white and chalkboard paint. I want to do at least one more with the chalkboard paint because, well, I like being able to write/doodle on them! Jeanine ...

Upcycled Dollar Store Clipboard

October 01, 2012 / BY Okio B Designs
I don't know about you but when I craft, I just can't seem to throw out bits and pieces of paper, cardstock, etc.  While those random bits come in handy occasionally, they are taking over precious space in my little craft room/office. In between the movies and pumpkin picking this weekend, I broke out this petite dollar store clipboard for a quick organizational makeover.  First I spray painted it white.  Once that was dry, I Mod...
